Scottie Scheffler failed to make the top 20 last year but is still the favorite in the current Open Championship odds. Scheffler had a rough showing at the US Open, but he could put that behind him with a win in the last major of the year.

This golf betting guide will break down The Open Championship 2024 odds. I will discuss the odds for all the top golfers competing at Royal Troon Golf Club this year and tell you where to bet on this year’s Open Championship.

2024 Open Championship Odds

The Open Championship is traditionally the fourth and final major golf tournament of the year. This year’s event takes place in Scotland at the Royal Troon Golf Club. It is the 10th time The Open has been held at this course and the first time since 2016.

Scottie Scheffler (+450)

Scottie Scheffler is listed as the +450 favorite in the current odds to win this year’s Open Championship. Scheffler has been the top-ranked golfer in the world for nearly two years. He has entered every major this year as the favorite and won The Masters earlier this year.

Scheffler has struggled in his other two major appearances this year. He tied for eighth at the PGA Championship and then tied for 41st at the US Open. Scheffler’s finish at the US Open was his worst finish in a major since missing the cut at the 2022 PGA Championship.

Historically, Scheffler has struggled at The British Open so far in his career. He finished tied for 23rd last year, his worst finish in his three career appearances. Scheffler’s performance in this event has worsened every year since he finished tied for eighth in his debut in 2021.

Rory McIlroy (+800)

Rory McIlroy lost the US Open in heartbreaking fashion, losing a two-stroke lead with four holes to play. McIlroy bogeyed three of the four holes, opening the door for Bryson DeChambeau to win the event. It was McIlroy’s third runner-up finish at the US Open and his second in as many years.

Oddsmakers have McIlroy listed at +800 to avenge his US Open loss and win the 2024 British Open. McIlroy finished tied for sixth at this event in 2023. He won this tournament in 2014 and has finished sixth or better five times since then.

Although McIlroy has not won a major since 2014, he is still ranked second in the Official World Golf Ranking. He has nearly two dozen top-10 finishes in majors since his last major win. He may not win the event, but it is challenging to count McIlroy out completely.

Xander Schauffele (+1400)

Top-ranked sports betting sites have two golfers tied for the third-best odds for The Open Championship 2024. The first is Xander Schauffele, who finished tied for 17th at this event last season. Schauffele is tied with Bryson DeChambeau at 14-1 odds to claim the top spot at the Royal Troon Golf Club this year.

Schauffele won his first major of his career at the 2024 PGA Championship. The closest he has come to winning The Open was when Schauffele tied for second in 2018. Schauffele has not finished in the top 10 at this event since.

Given his struggles in this event, it is somewhat surprising to see Schauffele tied for the third-best odds to win. On the other hand, Schauffele has finished in the top 10 in five of the last seven majors he has competed in.

Bryson DeChambeau (+1400)

Oddsmakers have Bryson DeChambeau listed at 14-1, tying him with Schauffele for the third-best Open Championship odds. Last month, DeChambeau won the US Open for the second time in his career.

However, DeChambeau had struggled at majors outside of the US Open prior to this year. He has seven top-10 finishes in majors since 2015, but three of those came this year.

The Open Championship has been especially trying for DeChambeau, who finished tied for 60th last year. He has only finished in the top 10 once, tying for eighth in 2022. That was the only time DeChambeau has finished in the top 30 in this tournament.

Ludvig Aberg (+1800)

Rounding out the top five in this year’s British Open Championship odds is Ludvig Aberg. The 24-year-old Swedish golfer is currently ranked fourth in the world. He made his major debut at the Masters earlier this year.

Aberg finished second in his first Masters but missed the cut at the PGA Championship. He bounced back at the US Open, finishing tied for 12th. If he can build on that performance, Aberg could secure the first major win of his career.

Oddsmakers have Aberg listed at +1800, ahead of other, more recognizable names. He has shown promise, but it is challenging to predict how Aberg will fair in his first British Open appearance.

Brian Harman (+6500)

Brian Harman shocked many golf fans last year when he broke through and won The Open Championship. It was the first major of Harman’s career. The 37-year-old is a heavy underdog to repeat his performance this year.

Harman is listed at +6500, tied with Matt Fitzpatrick for the 23rd-best odds for The Open Championship. Despite the odds, Harman should not be completely counted out of defending his title this year. Harman finished 2023 as the ninth-ranked golfer in the world and is currently ranked 12th.

Harman has plenty of experience and has made the cut in 19 of the 33 majors he has played in. He has also finished in the top 20 at this event each of the last three years. Harman is a long shot, but at 65-1, he could be worth the risk.

2024 Open Championship Picks

Dozens of the best golfers in the world will compete in this year’s 2024 Open Championship, but only one can claim victory in Scotland. Scottie Scheffler is the favorite, but his performances since winning the 2024 Masters have left plenty to be desired.

Of all the golfers listed above, I think that Bryson DeChambeau is the best bet to win The Open Championship this year. He just won the US Open and finished one stroke behind Xander Schauffele at the 2024 PGA Championship.

DeChambeau has struggled in this tournament but has also played some of the best golf of his career this year. He has finished in the top 6 in all three majors in 2024, with two of those finishes being in the top two. I believe he will continue his success and claim his second major of the year and the third of his career.
